Upon arriving at the station in Nara, please take complimentary map at the tourism counter just before exiting the building. The Nara Park is about 5 minutes walk from the station. There are close to 1200 deer roaming freely in the park. Few stalls around the park sell special biscuits for deer ¥150. The deer have good sense of smell. They followed my husband for the biscuits. It was a sight to behold! They are gentle animals, nudging once in a while for food.
We went to a grassy area in the park and just spend some time with the deer. The children, for the first time being so close to them were curious and happy. They fed them and pat them too.
Before we left Nara, we explored Higashimuki shopping street (beside Kintetsu Nara Station) and had authentic Japanese lunch there. Grilled eel on steaming hot rice, soba noodles and tonkatsu drenched in egg with onions sauce. We also bought two boxes of white and red strawberries and champagne grapes at one of the fruit stalls.
The children had their late afternoon nap in the hotel. Later, we went shopping in Shinsaibashi and chance upon Peko-chan restaurant. Fujiya was established in 1910. Its popular mascot Peko-chan is a cute little girl with pigtails. We loved all the food we ordered there. Their kids meal comes with a token which you can use to get a surprise egg in the machine outside the restaurant.
That's all for Day 2 in Japan! Good night! :)
